Method

- Participant photography. Participants make their own photographs. Under the Photovoice360 and Transformative Arts Project protocol for our projects, participant photographs do not include identifiable faces; participants photograph objects, places, details, hands or gesture, silhouettes, environments, and visual metaphors instead.
- Participant interpretation. Each participant writes what their own photograph means. Participant interpretation is the primary account of the image and is preserved as submitted.
- Critical reflection. Reflection follows the SHOWED questions: What do you SEE here? What is really HAPPENING? How does this relate to OUR lives? WHY does this situation exist? How can we feel EMPOWERED by this? What can we DO about it?
- Group dialogue. Photographs are discussed together. The photographer speaks first and the group responds to what they said.
- Participatory analysis. Participants take part in identifying codes and themes across photographs and reflections. Community strengths are held alongside concerns, and every theme stays connected to its source submissions.
- Community findings. Themes are stated as plain-language findings that describe this project's participants and are not presented as claims about a wider population.
- Dissemination and community action. Findings are brought to stakeholders and decision-makers through exhibits, reports, briefings, and direct dialogue, with participants present, followed by participant-named action priorities.
